BLACKMAGIC PYXIS 6K EF

Introducing the next-generation customizable cinema camera! The Blackmagic PYXIS 6K is a high-end digital cinema camera that produces accurate skin tones and rich, organic colors. It features an extremely versatile design that lets you build the perfect camera setup for your production! You get a 6K full-frame sensor of 36 x 24 mm with a wide dynamic range and a built-in optical low pass filter designed to perfectly match the sensor. Additionally, there are 3 models available with EF, PL, or L-Mount. The camera is equipped with a dual CFexpress B card slot and an Ethernet port for media sharing on Blackmagic Cloud! It even simultaneously records 12-bit Blackmagic RAW files and extremely small H.264 proxy files!
With multiple mounting points and accessory side plates, it's easy to configure Blackmagic PYXIS into the camera you need. The PYXIS's compact body is made from precision CNC-machined aerospace-grade aluminum, meaning it's lightweight but very durable. It can be easily mounted on various camera tripods, such as cranes, gimbals, or drones! In addition to multiple 1/4″ and 3/8″ threaded mounts on the top and bottom of the body, Blackmagic PYXIS has a range of side plates that further expand mounting options for accessories like mounts, microphones, and even SSD drives. All of this means you can build the perfect camera for any production that is both robust and reliable!
Blackmagic PYXIS has the professional features you need for feature films, TV shows, and documentaries, but now the same quality can be used to create cinematic content for social media, YouTube videos, and more. You get the same features found in high-end digital film cameras, allowing you to capture deeper colors, greater image detail, and a wider dynamic range between the brightest highlights and the deepest shadows. That's why feature films look so amazing, and now you can get the same high-level production values for any type of work. Imagine shooting with large-format digital film on low-budget independent films, TV commercials, and even corporate videos!
The Blackmagic PYXIS has a massive full-frame sensor with a native resolution of 6048 x 4032. This is almost three times the resolution of the Super 35 sensor and allows you to shoot with shallow depth of field or use anamorphic lenses without cropping for a truly cinematic aspect. Whether you’re shooting in bright sunlight or almost no light, the 13-stop dynamic range with dual native ISO sensitivity up to 25,600 delivers stunning, low-noise images under any lighting conditions. Additionally, you can record up to 36 frames per second in full-resolution or 120 frames per second in windowed mode. This stunning sensor combined with Blackmagic Color Science means you get the same imaging technology as expensive digital cinema cameras.
The large full-frame sensor of Blackmagic PYXIS allows you to work in various film formats and aspect ratios without losing quality. Using the entire sensor surface allows for a unique 3:2 image, which also allows for framing shots in post-production. The large sensor also enables you to work in true 6:5 anamorphic format without cropping, making the widescreen cinematic images more detailed and higher resolution than before. You can even use the classic Super 35 size window of the sensor to create an instant "close-up" version of the shot that perfectly matches the open footage. All this allows you to create exceptional cinematic materials of the highest quality!
With 3 models, you can choose between lenses with L, EF, or PL mounts, making Blackmagic PYXIS compatible with the widest range of cinema and photography lenses in the world. The L-mount model works with the latest full-frame lenses from Leica, Panasonic, and Sigma but can also accommodate lens adapters, allowing the use of a wide range of new and old lenses. The EF mount lets you use the high-quality photographic lenses you already have from your DSLR cameras and even Blackmagic Pocket Cinema cameras. Meanwhile, the PL model allows you to work with professional cinema lenses from Zeiss, ARRI, Cooke, and others without needing an adapter. With Blackmagic PYXIS, you have a selection of lens mounts for unlimited creative choice!
The distance between the lightest and darkest parts of an image is called dynamic range and is measured in stops. The Blackmagic PYXIS has an incredible dynamic range of 13 stops, which means it retains more details in the brightest and darkest areas of the image than regular video cameras. This allows you to set the exposure for an indoor scene, like a café, while preserving the detail of the bright light coming through the window. Also, more colors are achieved than in the standard DCI-P3 color space used in films. Additionally, the camera comes with DaVinci Resolve Studio software, which gives you total creative freedom with full exposure adjustment and recovery control during color correction.
In digital film, ISO is a measure of the image sensor's sensitivity to light. This means that the higher the ISO value, the greater the sensitivity to light, allowing you to shoot with natural light even at night. Blackmagic PYXIS offers native dual ISO of up to 25,600, meaning it is optimized to minimize grain or noise in images while maintaining the full dynamic range of the sensor. Native ISO 400 is ideal for scenes with on-set lighting. The additional high base ISO sensitivity of 3200 is perfect for shooting in low-light locations. The gain is automatically set as you adjust the ISO settings, making it easy to capture great images when you don't have time to adjust the lights.
The Blackmagic PYXIS can record in all standard resolutions and frame rates, from HD to DCI 4K and even 6K. You can even take photos at 24.6 megapixels! The Blackmagic PYXIS can record up to 36 frames per second at 6048 x 4032 3:2 with an open gate or 60 frames per second at 6048 x 2520 2.4:1 and 60 frames per second at 4096 x 2160 4K DCI. For higher frame rates, you can window the sensor and record up to 100 fps with a Super 16 resolution of 2112 x 1184. You can even work in real anamorphic 6:5 format at much higher resolutions than other cameras using anamorphic lenses in 4.8K. at 24 frames per second and a resolution of 4832 x 4032. You can even record 120 frames per second in 1080HD! With Blackmagic PYXIS, you'll always be able to record at the correct resolution!
The built-in LCD screen on the Blackmagic PYXIS is more than just a status display. It's a 4-inch high-resolution HDR touchscreen that's perfect for monitoring and reviewing shots on set! Its Full HD resolution means you can frame and focus your shots without having to carry around a bulky external monitor! You can even use the screen as a focus assist station! Additionally, as an HDR screen, it has a brightness of 1500 nits, so you'll always be able to see your shot or change settings, even in bright sunlight. On-screen overlays show recording status and parameters, histograms, levels, framing guides, and more. You can even quickly apply a 3D LUT to monitor shots with the desired color and look.
The Blackmagic PYXIS has a logical design that puts important functions like ISO, WB, and shutter at your fingertips, both through the touchscreen and physical controls. There’s even a scroll wheel for quickly adjusting settings! A row of 3 customizable function buttons means you don't have to search through small screen menus to find a command! Blackmagic PYXIS offers easy-to-access recording and shooting buttons that are located exactly where you expect them, including function buttons for high frame rate, focus, zoom, false color, and more. Controls can even be locked to prevent accidental setting changes while shooting or when the camera is out of the rig's reach.
The innovative side plates further expand the camera's mounting options! The standard plate included with the Blackmagic PYXIS is made from the same aircraft-grade aluminum as the camera body and has 2 1/4" thread mounts and a 3/8" thread mount, allowing you to add microphones, mounts, or other accessories. You can also include the included SSD plate, which offers a convenient place to securely attach a USB-C drive for recording or even your cell phone for live streaming. The optional rosette plate provides maximum flexibility with 5 1/4" threaded mounts and 4 3/8" threaded mounts for adding accessories, as well as a rosette attachment point for attaching grips or extension arms.
Blackmagic PYXIS records in Blackmagic RAW format to maintain control over details, exposure, and color during post-production. It also records HD H.264 proxy recordings in real-time, making it easy to share your media worldwide in minutes. Blackmagic RAW is highly optimized, multithreaded, runs on multiple CPU cores, and is GPU-accelerated to work with Apple Metal, CUDA, and OpenCL. This means that images always retain unprecedented resolution and quality in color, keying, compositing, reframing, stabilization, and tracking in HD, 4K, or 6K. Media files work on all operating systems, and you can format media cards and drives in HFS+ for Mac and ExFAT for Windows.
Blackmagic PYXIS has two built-in CFexpress card recorders and a USB-C expansion port for recording directly to flash drives or external SSDs. CFexpress media is more durable and faster than even older media, making it perfect for recording 12-bit Blackmagic RAW files at maximum resolution. Imagine recording over an hour of full-resolution 6K footage on a single 256GB CFexpress card! Plus, with two CFexpress slots, you can keep recording because you can swap out full cards without stopping. The extremely high speed of CFexpress cards makes them ideal for mounting on a computer and editing directly using the included DaVinci Resolve Studio software.

There is also a mini XLR connector with 48-volt phantom power for microphones, a 3.5mm video camera style microphone input, a timecode input, a reference input, a headphone jack, and a locking DC power connector.
With built-in high-fidelity professional audio recording, you'll never have to carry a separate audio recorder again! The Blackmagic PYXIS features a mini XLR input with 48V phantom power to connect professional microphones, such as lapel and boom microphones. The built-in microphones are extremely quiet and resistant to shock and wind, capturing excellent sound and are ideal for recording on-site guide tracks. There is also a 3.5 mm audio input for connecting video camera microphones, as well as a built-in speaker for playback and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. These audio connectors allow you to record independent audio tracks using microphones, without an external mixer.
Digital film cameras record in a logarithmic color space to preserve dynamic range, which is great for post-production, but when these files are viewed on a monitor, they can appear flat and washed out. 3D LUTs solve this problem because they allow you to apply a "look" to your monitor so you can get an idea of how your finished images will look when edited. LUTs can be used temporarily for monitoring purposes only or can be saved in Blackmagic RAW files for use in post-production. Blackmagic PYXIS works with industry-standard 17 and 33-point 3D LUT files, and can also work with built-in LUTs such as Extended Video, Film to Video, Film to Rec.2020, and others.
Blackmagic PYXIS features an innovative and fast USB-C expansion port that operates at speeds up to 5 Gb/s. USB-C is available on most new computers and even provides power. This means you can connect external accessories, such as high-capacity flash drives and SSDs, to significantly extend recording time. Best of all, once you have finished recording, you can simply move the external drive to your computer and start editing and color correcting immediately from the same drive, eliminating file copying. You can also use the camera's built-in Ethernet port to control the camera over the network using secure and easy-to-use REST APIs. You can even copy files from your camera over the network!
You can now live stream from film sets! Blackmagic PYXIS has a built-in hardware streaming engine that supports RTMP and SRT streaming to YouTube, Facebook, X, and more. To access the internet, you have two options: one to connect via Ethernet or you can connect your 4G or 5G phone for mobile data. Since streaming is integrated into the camera, you can view the streaming status and data rate on the viewfinder and LCD screen. If you want to create a wireless link with the studio, you can stream to the Blackmagic ATEM Streaming Bridge, which is an H.264 decoder that converts the video stream back into video. Now the entire post-production team can monitor the photo session live during the shoot!
Professional cameras have professional features, such as timecode input, which allows you to shoot with more than one camera while maintaining perfect synchronization. Simply connect an external timecode generator to the BNC timecode input, and the camera will automatically detect the timecode and lock the internal generator. Now each camera can start and stop recording, and all shots from all cameras will have the same aligned timecode. Imagine recording a music festival with multiple cameras! Best of all, DaVinci Resolve will automatically search and sync shots from all your cameras, so you don't have to waste time sorting through thousands of shots!
In addition to recording video, Blackmagic PYXIS can also capture high-resolution photographs. Simply press the dedicated photo button to capture 24.6-megapixel images. The photos are saved as Blackmagic RAW, resulting in very high image quality that is perfect for creating professional high-resolution prints or for further editing in DaVinci Resolve. Capturing still images is great for tracking continuity between takes or for sharing images to gain consent from clients who are not on set.
Blackmagic PYXIS is designed for worldwide use and supports 13 different languages! When setting up your camera, you can choose to work in English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese, or Korean. It's easy to switch to another language so you can share your camera with another team while traveling to locations around the world! When you change the language, all on-screen overlays, setup menus, and monitoring information will be displayed in the selected language.
If you place the camera at the end of a jib or other hard-to-reach location, you can gain full control via Bluetooth from a distance of up to 30 feet. You can download the Blackmagic Camera Control app on iPad or use third-party apps like Bluetooth+ or tRigger on iOS and Android devices.
