A compact design with excellent optics and a motorized zoom function make the Sony PZ 16-35mm f/4 GIt is an ideal option for all types of creators, whether you shoot videos, still images, or both. This ultra-wide-angle lens is among the lightest in its class, and the constant f/4 aperture achieves an ideal balance that is bright enough for shooting with available light while remaining portable for all-day shooting.
Optimized for video
A perfect companion for content creators, the key features of this lens are ideal for video applications, including Power Zoom, suppressed focus breathing, and versatile focus handling, along with a well-balanced design that works well when mounted on a gimbal, drone, or handheld device.
The electronically controlled Power Zoom mechanism allows for smooth zooming during shots, with control possible through the lens body or selected camera bodies.
Power Zoom can be used in conjunction with Sony camera's Clear Image Zoom function, which can further extend the effective range up to 2x while maintaining image quality close to the original. If the zoom speed of the lens is set to Slow and the zoom control is performed remotely from the camera body, the zoom transition will be seamless from optical zoom to Clear Image Zoom.
The Power Zoom mechanism uses four XD linear motors for precise, fast, and silent zoom movement.
The internal zoom and internal focus design maintain the total length of the lens during operation.
The aperture ring can be deactivated to change the iris smoothly, silently, and seamlessly during recording.
Smooth Motion Optics (SMO) suppresses focus breathing to help maintain compositional accuracy when changing focus. This lens is also compatible with the breathing compensation function on selected Alpha cameras.
Optical Design
The wide-angle zoom design covers ultra-wide to standard wide focal lengths, and a constant maximum aperture of f/4 offers consistency and a solid balance between brightness and a compact design.
Two advanced aspherical (AA) elements and one aspherical element help achieve great sharpness and suppress distortion and spherical aberrations.
The Super ED and ED elements promote greater clarity and color accuracy by reducing chromatic aberrations.
An aspherical ED element further contributes to impressive image quality by correcting a variety of aberrations.
Special attention has been paid to achieve consistent and sharp performance across all zoom and focus ranges to achieve maximum versatility.
The rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth bokeh quality.
Versatile focus performance
An XD linear motor system uses two independent motors to provide fast, silent, and precise autofocus and tracking performance. This design also contributes to a more natural and intuitive linear response manual focus control, and an AF/MF switch is located on the lens barrel to quickly change the focus mode.
The internal focus design offers more responsive focusing performance and maintains a constant overall lens length during operation.
Suitable for close-ups, the minimum focus distance at the 16 mm position is 11" and, at the 35 mm position, it is 9.4" with a maximum magnification of 0.23x.
Portable design, intuitive handling
As a G lens, this 16-35mm f/4 prioritizes compactness and boasts a lightweight design while delivering impressive optical performance and a notable constant maximum aperture of f/4. The lens is also weather-sealed and features an intuitive design for easy operation, making it a versatile wide-angle lens for hybrid photographers and content creators.
The impressively lightweight and sleek design is suitable for everyday handheld use and is ideal for travel applications.
The dust and moisture-resistant design is suitable for working in adverse conditions, and a fluorine coating has also been applied to the front element to resist dust, oils, and fingerprints, as well as to facilitate the cleaning of the front element.
Integrated Power Zoom control in the lens body for easy adjustment of the focal length. When used with selected Sony cameras, Power Zoom can also be operated through the camera controls.
The intuitive design includes separate aperture/iris, focus, and zoom rings for a sensitive and natural configuration adjustment.
