Fast and versatile, Sigma's Sony E-mount 50 mm f / 1.4 DG HSM is a normal length cousin designed to achieve high optical performance through the incorporation of three special low dispersion glass elements and one aspherical molded glass element. These elements, along with an advanced optical design, function to minimize sagittal comma flare and chromatic aberrations in order to provide high image sharpness and clarity. The large lens diameter and floating system also help correct vignetting to ensure high image sharpness and clarity. The lens is constructed using a thermally stable composite material (TSC), along with traditional metals, for greater accuracy and use in wide temperature variations.

The bayonet mount is constructed of brass to ensure accuracy and durability. In addition, rubber sealing is incorporated into the mounting design to make it dust and splash resistant.
