SIGMA 24-70MM F2.8 DG DN II ART FOR SONY E
Significant evolution of the original model, the SIGMA The 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II | Art is a benchmark lens that incorporates the brand's most advanced technologies from its design to its production.
In comparison with the SIGMA The 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Art offers greater resolution capability throughout the zoom range and features several functional improvements, such as the inclusion of an aperture ring and high-speed focusing thanks to the redesigned HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) motor.
It is also 7% smaller and 10% lighter than the previous model. A versatile and high-performance tool that allows photographers and filmmakers to unleash their full creative potential.
Performance and quality worthy of a benchmark lens
Evolution of an entire flagship like the SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Art, known for its high optical performance, this model manages to improve resolution throughout the focal range, maintaining high sharpness across the entire frame from the maximum aperture, even in high-resolution cameras.
The F2.8 aperture diaphragm produces a great and beautiful bokeh effect and allows you to experience shooting with a top-level lens in any area of visual expression. In addition to its advanced capability for close-up shots and resistance to flare and ghosting, this lens is designed to minimize focus breathing, providing the right performance in any situation.
High optical performance throughout the image and at any focal length
The optical design includes six FLD glass elements, two SLD elements, and five aspherical elements to suppress various aberrations throughout the entire zoom range. It particularly manages to keep sagittal coma flare under control, consistently offering high resolution up to the frame's edges. Thanks to the effective correction of lateral chromatic aberration, it is possible to achieve high-resolution images free of color fringing.
The use of five high-precision aspherical lenses results in high optical performance with minimal necessary aberration correction, along with a compact optical design. The only production center of SIGMA In the Japanese region of Aizu, high-precision aspherical molding technology makes it possible to create fine and highly polarized aspherical lenses, essential for constructing this zoom. A technical marvel that translates into greater freedom when conceiving its optical design.
Opening ring and two AFL buttons
The diaphragm control ring, as well as the locking and click override switches during rotation, provide optimal handling for a wide variety of shooting situations.
The lens also features two AFL buttons (one more than the original model) to which various functions can be assigned through the menu of a compatible camera. In addition to a button designed for shooting in a horizontal position, another has been added to facilitate use when the camera is oriented vertically.
More portable and with more features.
The body of the SIGMA The 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II | Art is approximately 7% smaller and 10% lighter than the previous model. Despite the size reduction and the greater number of features, this lens remains true to the excellent build quality that has become a hallmark of SIGMA. A robust construction that lives up to the expectations generated by a professional photographic tool.
Despite the number of optical elements being the same as in the previous model, the barrel length has been reduced thanks to the advanced optical design employed. Additionally, a more efficient mechanical design has resulted in a more portable body with a maximum diameter and a length of 87.8 and 122.2 millimeters, respectively, and a weight of only 745 grams (data for the Sony E version).
Excellent build quality
With efforts always focused on reducing the size and weight of the assembly without compromising its quality, metal parts have been used for the zoom extension and other elements, as well as a robust internal structure that ensures its rigidity during use. The resulting design emphasizes the durability and reliability of this optic as a tool.
In addition to a dust and splash-proof structure, the front element of the lens features a coating against water and grease, allowing for worry-free shooting in a wide range of environments.
Angular position locking in zoom
The lens is equipped with a switch to lock the zoom in the angular position and prevent the barrel from extending accidentally under its own weight. It can not only be unlocked with the switch but also by manually operating the zoom, providing more flexible handling for situations that require a swift response.
Linear motor HLA
The SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II | Art incorporates an HLA linear motor for the autofocus actuator. This high-performance HLA motor makes the maximum drive speed more than three times faster than the original model, ensuring highly responsive AF.
Approach capture
This lens has the ability to perform amazing close-up captures, with a minimum distance of 17 centimeters at its widest focal length and a magnification ratio of 1:2.7. A very convenient feature for taking close-up shots of a subject or shooting in small spaces.
Designed to minimize flare and ghosting
With the purpose of avoiding flare and ghosting, which reduce image quality, this optic is designed to handle all incident light conditions thanks to tests conducted with state-of-the-art simulation technology.
Nanoporous Coatings (NPC) and Super Multi Layer (SML) contribute to this. SIGMA, which minimize glare and ghosting to the bare minimum. The resistance to strong backlighting allows for clear and sharp images under any lighting conditions.
Minimal focus breathing
This objective has been designed to suppress focus breathing. Thus, it drastically reduces the variation in the angle of view that typically occurs when changing focus across the entire zoom range, facilitating a natural shift in focus during video recording.
