With the same optical design and distinct image quality as the original 1930s version, the Leica Thambar-M 90mm f / 2.2 is an M-mount lens characterized by its unique soft focus appearance and the use of a filter removable center point to enhance the dreamy qualities of the lens. This vertical length lens replicates the optical design of the original, but enhances its predecessor with single-coated glass elements for added protection from the elements and corrosion. This new version also has an amazing black paint finish and double aperture scales, in white and red, to represent work with and without the removable center point filter. Stepping away from the clean, crisp quality that Leica is best known for, the Thambar-M 90mm f / 2.2 serves as a tribute to the unique and creative lenses that make up its heritage of producing truly stunning and unmistakable images.
Dedicated to producing soft focus images, this unique lens can be used in conjunction with the included center point filter to increase the drama of the dreamy effect for striking and ethereal image quality.
Based on the original Thambar from the 1930s, this updated version uses the same optical design but features a unique protective coating on the glass elements to protect against corrosion.
Deliberate incorrect correction of spherical aberration, coupled with a 20-blade diaphragm, produces a circular representation of out-of-focus reflections along with an overall fuzzy quality that becomes more exaggerated towards the edge of the frame.
The short focal length of the telephoto lens and the bright maximum aperture of f / 2.2 are ideal for portraits and isolating subjects using shallow depth of field techniques.
The double aperture scales, in red and white, represent working with and without the center point filter in place. Plus, the opening ring is continuous for a smooth and precise fit that is not limited by click stops.
The manual focus design provides a minimum focus distance of 3.3 '.
The included vintage brown hard leather case further reinforces the classic look and nostalgia of this lens, and contains a storage pocket for the center filter included in the lid. Also, the included specially designed metal lens hood and metal front lens cap are lined to protect the metal body of the lens from scratches.
