The first short telephoto lens provides a 35mm focal length equivalent to 85mm, making it ideal for portraits and other applications where a slightly longer-than-normal appearance and a flattened appearance are desired.

The bright maximum aperture of f/1.2 is ideal for low light shooting and for controlling focus placement for field focus and selective focus applications.

Signified by the APD designation, this lens incorporates a nickname filter to produce a controllable, aesthetically pleasing bokeh, characterized by a sharp main subject, a tremendously blurred background, and overall three-dimensional quality. These effects are further accentuated by the seven rounded diaphragm blades, which help develop a circular quality to stand out from focus.

Using two separate sets of aperture values, the red series of numbers indicates the effective aperture value in terms of depth of field. The standard white set of numbers indicates the actual f/stop number, and the difference between these two sets of numbers indicates the effectiveness of the filter.

Composed of 11 elements in 8 groups, the optical design includes a molded aspherical glass element, two extra low dispersion elements and three cemented elements. This sophisticated design helps minimize chromatic and spherical aberrations, as well as color fringes and other distortions.

A multi-layer HT-EBC coating minimizes lens flare and ghosting to provide neutral color and high-contrast images.

An internal focusing mechanism maintains the overall length of the lens and moves only the smallest intermediate and posterior elements during focusing for faster, more reliable performance.

When used with an X-series camera that has an LMO function, lens performance is improved to provide consistent illumination and sharpness throughout the aperture range.
