With a useful range, Nikon's AF-S NIKKOR 24-85 mm f / 3.5-4.5G ED VR covers wide-angle to portrait focal lengths to accommodate work in a wide variety of situations. The optical design incorporates three aspherical elements and an extra-low dispersion element, which help to greatly reduce spherical and chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range. A super-integrated coating also minimizes surface reflections, flashes and phantom images to improve contrast and color accuracy. As a complement to the optics, this lens also has a silent wave motor for fast and precise autofocus along with VR II image stabilization to minimize the appearance of camera shake at four stops.
The standard zoom is designed for cameras with FX format F mount, however, it can also be used with DX models where it provides an equivalent focal length range of 36-127.5 mm.
Three aspherical elements are used to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion to obtain sharp images with accurate representation.
An extra low dispersion element greatly reduces color stripes and chromatic aberrations to produce greater clarity and color accuracy.
A super-integrated coating has been applied to individual elements to suppress internal reflections, flashes and phantom images to improve contrast and color accuracy when working in bright lighting conditions.
Silent Wave Motor offers fast, quiet and accurate autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. An internal focus design is also used, where only the internal lens groups move during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and promote faster focusing speeds.
VR II image stabilization (vibration reduction) helps minimize the appearance of camera shake at four stops to benefit the handheld shooting in difficult lighting conditions.
The rounded seven-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasant unfocused quality that benefits from the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.
