Building on the elegant profile and full-frame sensor combination of its first-generation predecessor, the black Sony a7C II offers improved resolution, autofocus, in-body image stabilization, and video capabilities in the same compact form factor, all day, every day.

33.0MP Exmor R CMOS sensor and BIONZ XR processor
The advanced imaging system of the Sony a7C II is powered by a 33MP full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor and the BIONZ XR processor, a combination capable of 10K 4-bit images at up to 30 fps or a maximum continuous shooting speed of 10 fps with AF and AE using the mechanical or electronic shutter. The introduction of the back-illuminated structure in the camera's sensor provides higher resolution without sacrificing sensitivity. With an ISO range of 100-51200 that can be expanded to ISO 50-204800, the camera offers low-light performance with minimal noise and a wide dynamic range.

Video recording
Along with its powerful sensor and processor, the Sony a7C offers a solid set of video features for content creators and everyday videographers.

• Record in 10-bit 4:2:2 using the advanced XAVC S-I format to achieve consistent performance and quality at bit rates of up to 600 Mb/s.

• Full-frame 4K recording is possible with frame rates of up to 30p, up to 60p in 4K with a Super35 crop, and Full HD recording of up to 120p, using full pixel readout 1:1 without binning.

• The high-speed recording at 120 fps also allows for 4x and 5x slow-motion movie recording with the frame rate set at 30p or 24p.

• The Slow and Quick (S&Q) mode allows photographers to capture 4K video at specific intervals between 1-60 fps and Full HD between 1-120 fps, depending on the format. These settings will enable you to slow down the action, as well as speed up a slow-motion scene.

• The S-Log3 gamma curves and S-Gamut3.Cine allow for more than 15 stops of dynamic range and greater post-production flexibility, including matching video from other Sony Cinema Line cameras.

• S-Cinetone can be used to offer distinct colors and a healthy-looking skin tone representation based on the technology of professional Cinema Line cameras, such as the VENICE. This color profile provides natural mid-tones, soft colors, and particularly well-controlled highlights.

• Creative Looks can be integrated into the recorded footage to create a specific atmosphere during filming and minimize the need for editing.

• User-created LUTs and presets can be configured to accurately monitor images or preview a specific look during shooting and can be applied to the camera's monitor, EVF, or HDMI output.

AI-powered autofocus and image stabilization

The AI processing unit of the Sony a7C II brings a range of enhanced capabilities to the camera's autofocus and image stabilization systems, ensuring smooth handling and clarity regardless of shooting conditions. The camera's 759 phase detection points in still image mode and 495 points in video mode, covering 94% of the image area, have been improved with AI-driven subject recognition performance and real-time tracking. The AI processor also uses a new autoexposure algorithm, Human Pose Estimation, to prioritize exposure areas for a 20% improvement in overall exposure accuracy. The automatic white balance also benefits from the enhanced AI processor, assisting in challenging lighting conditions. Other autofocus features include focus bracketing in up to 299 images with sequentially shifted focus points, low-light focus accuracy down to EV -4.0, focus breathing compensation, autofocus assist, focus mapping, and focus peaking during autofocus.

AI-enhanced framing compatible with Vlog
Additionally, the AI processing unit recognizes and tracks subjects while recording video, automatically cropping seamlessly to keep the subject in a prominent position in the frame and ease camera work that would otherwise be difficult. This tracking can be customized within the frame and the speed and sensitivity can be adjusted, all with the touch of a finger.

Image stabilization
It now offers seven stops of vibration compensation, the camera's 5-axis pixel-level optical image stabilization system, which counteracts five different types of camera shake encountered during handheld shooting of still images and video, is algorithmically optimized for detection and precision control down to a single pixel. The AI processing unit also enhances communication between the body and the lens, providing more stable framing before shooting. This allows users to confidently use any lens, even adapted lenses, to capture critical images without encountering blur due to camera movement.

Advanced rendering
For photographers, the a7C II offers a wide range of color representations and compressions for optimal image quality and storage management, led by the introduction of the High Efficiency Image File (HEIF) format. Users can also choose between compressed and lossless compressed options when shooting in RAW. The AI processing unit also helps achieve better exposure results in automatic mode with applicable algorithmic adjustments made for skin tone, backlit situations, and white balance. The same Creative Looks presets available in video are also available when taking photographs, allowing for additional user-defined settings with eight adjustable parameters. For optimal viewing of still images when connected to selected monitors and televisions, the a7C II now offers a Hybrid Log-Gamma mode designed for still images that provides accurate dynamic range in 10-bit HEIF format.

Body design and connectivity

• The 2.36-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder offers a bright, high-resolution means of .70x magnification for eye-level monitoring and sports, along with a dedicated 120 fps mode for smoother viewing when tracking moving subjects.

• The 3.0" LCD touchscreen with 1.03 million dots, side-opening, and variable angle works from high, low, and front angles.

• It accepts the high-capacity Z battery rechargeable lithium-ion battery and can also be powered via a USB connection to a computer or mobile battery. This connection can also be used to charge the battery.
