Tascam DR-07X Portable Audio Recorder with 2 Inputs / 2 Tracks and Built-in Adjustable Stereo Microphone

For voice recording applications, sound effects, and live music, the portable handheld recorderTascam The DR-07X is capable of capturing two tracks of high-resolution audio without the need for external microphones. Its integrated unidirectional condenser microphones can be configured in an AB position for a spacious stereo effect or in an XY position for a tight stereo image with minimal phase differences. Equally adept as a portable device or in stand-mounted or camera-mounted setups, the DR-07X can handle anything from sampling sessions and recitals to interviews and podcasts.

The flexible power methods (batteries, USB bus power, or an AC adapter) make the DR-07X very suitable for on-the-go recording, all-day video recordings, and computer-based audio production. Need to patch in a lavalier microphone or an external mixer? The 3.5 mm mini-jack input on the DR-07X supports line level or microphone signals and can supply plug-in power if needed. Whether you use the built-in microphones or an external source, selectable modes such as peak reduction, limiting, and auto level give you options to achieve clean, distortion-free recordings.

Adjustable onboard unidirectional microphones

The built-in condenser microphones of the DR-07X allow you to capture in stereo for sources that produce sound pressure levels of up to 125 dB, so noisy concerts won't be an issue. While the DR-05X has omnidirectional microphones in a fixed AB configuration, the DR-07X features adjustable unidirectional microphones. Unidirectional microphones minimize the pickup of sound entering from the back of the capsules, resulting in a more focused tone with fewer reflections.

Easily rotate the capsules between two microphone configurations to complement your sound source: use the AB position (capsules facing outward) to produce a wide stereo image, or switch to the XY position (capsules facing inward) if you need a tighter stereo field with strong central presence and fewer phase differences.

3.5 mm microphone/line input with plug-in power

For maximum intelligibility and optimal vocal tone, recorders often prefer to use lapel microphones that can be attached to the subject's clothing. The 3.5 mm mini-jack input on the DR-07X is designed precisely for that situation; attach a lav microphone (available separately) to the talent, then connect it to the 3.5 mm input on the DR-07X. Knowing that many lav microphones require a small amount of voltage called plug-in power, Tascam offers a selectable configuration to supply plug-in power to the 3.5 mm input.

If you need to record the output of a wireless microphone receiver or an audio mixer, the 3.5 mm input can accommodate it with its line-level signal input. Since any source connected to the 3.5 mm mini-jack will override the built-in microphone input, you won't have to navigate through menus to select the appropriate input.

Supports microSDXC cards up to 128 GB

To maximize compactness and portability, the DR-07X records directly onto media cards (available separately). MicroSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC cards (up to 128 GB capacity) are compatible for long recording times even at high audio resolutions. With a 128GB card, the DR-07X can record in stereo for up to 192 hours at 16 bits / 44.1 kHz using an uncompressed WAV format that is BWF compatible.

3.5 mm line out / headphone jack

When you want to record with your camera and the DR-07X, simply connect the 3.5 mm mini-jack output from the DR-07X to your camera's input, then use the +/- buttons on the home screen to adjust the output level. Alternatively, connect a pair of headphones to the 3.5 mm mini-jack for critical listening. Quick monitor checks can be done through the DR-07X's built-in mono speaker.

USB microphone and audio interface functionality

Connect the DR-07X to your Mac/Windows computer or iOS device via USB for real-time bidirectional audio routing. Once recognized and configured, the DR-07X can be used as a USB microphone or as a 2-input/2-output audio interface for your favorite audio software. For convenient file transfers, the DR-07X can function as a card reader when connected via USB.

Powered by AA batteries, USB, or AC adapter

With the two included AA alkaline batteries, you can power the DR-07X for up to 17.5 hours of stereo recording time at a resolution of 16-bit / 44.1 kHz. For long sessions that require extended recording time, the DR-07X can be powered via a USB connection to a computer or mobile battery, or using the AC adapter. Tascam PS-P520E (available separately).

Ideal for manual use or mounted on a tripod

Designed for optimal portability, the DR-07X is small and lightweight. The streamlined body lends itself to comfortable use when held in the hand or placed in a pocket. To prevent unintended button presses in such situations, activate the hold switch on the side panel. Use the 1/4"-20 threaded hole on the bottom of the DR-07X to mount it on a microphone stand or tripod for stable and stationary positioning.

Built-in level modes and signal processing enhance audio quality.

Enhance the sonic impact of your audio with the level modes and built-in signal processing of the DR-07X. Activate the automatic level control to increase or decrease the recording volume when the input sound is too low or high, and turn on the limiter to compress the signal before it reaches the distortion point. In rehearsal mode or during recording, the peak reduction function automatically reduces the input gain to an appropriate level.

Mitigate wind noise and low-frequency noise by selecting the low-cut filter, which can be set to 40, 80, or 120 Hz. You can even choose to apply a preset of room, hall, studio, or plate reverb to the input or output signal. During playback, the high, mid, and low frequencies can be increased or reduced to achieve a customized output tone.

Selectable recording functions

The DR-07X offers several recording features that simplify your workflow and prevent missing the start of a performance. Once enabled, the pre-recording setting keeps the DR-07X in standby mode, allowing it to capture up to two seconds of signal before you press the record button. The DR-07X is also capable of recording in response to an input signal. Its automatic recording function can start recording at a user-selectable decibel threshold of -6, -12, -24, or -48 dB. If you are going to record yourself while playing an instrument like a piano or drums, you can use the auto-timer function to start recording after a set period of time (5 or 10 seconds).

Non-destructive overdubbing

The overdubbing feature of the DR-07X is perfect for layering a new performance over an existing track. When overdubbing, you can play an instrument or sing while playing a saved track. Both sounds will merge into a new file, keeping the original file intact.

Tone generator for synchronizing files

An internal tone generator facilitates the synchronization of files recorded on the DR-07X and your camera. When the DR-07X is connected to a camera, an adjustable automatic tone will be sent to the camera and recorded on the DR-07X. The resulting tones can be used as guides when synchronizing your files in video editing software.
