Tascam DR-05X Portable 2-input / 2-track audio recorder with built-in stereo microphone

For voice recording, sound effects and live music applications, the Tascam DR-05X portable portable recorder is capable of capturing two high resolution audio tracks without the need for external microphones. Its integrated omnidirectional condenser microphones are fixed in an AB arrangement to obtain wide stereo images of their source. Equally skilled as a portable device or in configurations mounted on a stand or camera, the DR-05X can handle anything from sampling sessions and recitals to interviews and podcasts.
Flexible power methods (batteries, USB bus power or an AC adapter) make the DR-05X very suitable for motion recording, video recordings throughout the day and computer-based audio production. Do you need to patch on a lavalier microphone or an external mixer? The 3.5mm mini-jack input on the DR-05X supports line level or microphone signals, and can supply plug power if necessary. Whether you use the built-in microphones or an external source, selectable modes such as peak reduction, limitation and automatic level offer you options for clean, distortion-free recording.
Omnidirectional microphones on board
The integrated condenser microphones of the DR-05X allow you to capture in stereo for sources that produce sound pressure levels of up to 125 dB, so noisy concerts will not be a problem. Omnidirectional microphones respond to sound from all directions and are permanently separated in an A / B configuration, producing a wide, sphere-shaped pickup pattern.
3.5mm microphone / line input with plug-in power
For maximum intelligibility and optimal vocal tone, recorders often prefer to use lapel microphones that can be connected to the subject's clothing. The 3.5mm mini-jack input of the DR-05X is designed for that situation precisely; attach a lav microphone (available separately) to the talent, then connect it to the 3.5mm input on the DR-05X. Knowing that many lav microphones require a small amount of voltage called plug-in power, Tascam offers a selectable configuration to supply plug-in power to the 3.5mm input.

If you need to record the output of a wireless microphone receiver or an audio mixer, the 3.5 mm input can accommodate it with its line level signal input. Since any source connected to the 3.5mm mini jack will cancel the built-in microphone input, you will not have to examine the menus to select the appropriate input.
Supports microSDXC cards up to 128 GB
To maximize compactness and portability, the DR-05X records directly on media cards (available separately). The microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC cards (up to 128 GB capacity) are compatible for long recording times even at high audio resolutions. With a 128GB card, the DR-05X can record in stereo for up to 192 hours at 16 bits / 44.1 kHz using an uncompressed WAV format and compatible with BWF.
3.5mm headphone / line out
When you want to record on your camera and on the DR-05X, simply connect the 3.5mm mini-jack output of the DR-05X to the input of your camera, then use the +/- buttons on the home screen to adjust the level output Alternatively, connect a pair of headphones to the 3.5mm mini jack to listen critically. Quick monitor checks can be performed through the integrated mono speaker of the DR-05X.
USB microphone and audio interface functionality
Connect the DR-05X to your Mac / Windows computer or iOS device via USB for real-time bidirectional audio routing. Once recognized and configured, the DR-05X can be used as a USB microphone or as a 2-in / 2-out audio interface for your favorite audio software. For convenient file transfers, the DR-05X can function as a card reader when connected via USB.
Powered by AA, USB or AC adapter batteries
Using the two included AA alkaline batteries, you can power the DR-05X for up to 17.5 hours of stereo recording time with a resolution of 16 bits / 44.1 kHz. For long-term sessions that require a long recording time, the DR-05X can be powered by a USB connection to a computer or mobile battery, or by the Tascam AC adapter PS-P520E (available separately).
