24.5 MP FX sensor and EXPEED 7 image processor

The 24.5 MP full-frame FX-format BSI CMOS sensor is paired with an EXPEED 7 image processor to offer a versatile combination of enhanced sensitivity, nuanced image quality, fast AI-powered autofocus, and high-resolution continuous shooting of up to 30 fps. In native values, the ISO 100-64000 sensitivity range allows for work in a wide range of lighting conditions and can be extended to ISO 50-204800 for extreme lighting conditions. The combination of sensor resolution and size also contributes to sharp image quality and smooth color transitions with reduced noise throughout the sensitivity range.

Autofocus you can trust

Thanks to the inherited algorithms and deep learning technology from the Z9, including sophisticated Subject Detection for nine different types, the Z5 II can recognize a variety of subjects, from humans to animals, airplanes, and bicycles. It also includes the popular Bird Detection mode. When using Automatic Area AF, these subjects will be automatically detected, focused on, and tracked to ensure sharp focus as they move across the frame.

Pre-launch capture

The EXPEED 7 processor also includes Pre-Shoot Capture, a feature that makes it easier to capture decisive moments by recording burst frames at up to 30 fps for up to one second before shooting. When this feature is activated, the burst will begin when the shutter is pressed halfway, and the buffer will retain the frames after it is fully pressed.

UHD 4K video recording

Capable of recording more than just photos, the Z5 II has also enhanced its video capture capabilities, now supporting UHD 4K video recording up to 60 fps and Full HD recording up to 120 fps, as well as recording time limits of up to two hours, video timer, built-in electronic Vibration Reduction, and the ability to save videos to the built-in memory cards or to an optional external recorder via HDMI output. It is also possible to record time-lapses directly from the camera, allowing for the production of a finished UHD 4K video file.

The Z5 II also features a product review mode and is compatible with UAC and UAV for live web streaming. Additionally, it can now record 10-bit video internally with Nikon's N-Log LUT and use four new RED LUTs.

Reduction of vibrations by changing the sensor

The body incorporates a Vibration Reduction (VR) mechanism with a 5-axis sensor shift that compensates up to five stops of stabilization, regardless of the lens used. With compatible lenses, up to 7.5 stops of stabilization can be achieved. Additionally, to enhance video recording, Electronic VR allows stabilizing footage and adapting it to handheld shooting.

Color control for creators

Nikon has added an Image Control button on the top of the Z5 II to access its 31 built-in presets, even in automatic mode. Color presets can now be overlaid on the rear LCD screen, allowing you to visualize color changes as they are created. Creation recipes made by other Nikon photographers are available through Nikon Imaging Cloud and can be downloaded and integrated along with the presets.

Body design and connectivity

  • A large 3.2" LCD screen with 2.1 million pixels doubles the brightness for sharp and vivid image playback, as well as live view shooting. The vari-angle touchscreen design offers more intuitive operation, navigation, and setting control. The enhanced touchscreen now includes the Touch FN option, allowing you to select the focus point with your fingers.

  • It features an ultra-bright electronic viewfinder with 3.69 million dots for comfortable eye-level viewing.

  • The dual slots for SD memory cards support the UHS-II protocol for saving photo and video files quickly and efficiently.

  • The Warm Screen Colors mode makes nighttime photography easier by changing white information to red to reduce brightness and preserve night vision. Additionally, the Starry View mode provides a sharp view even in complete darkness, which is beneficial for astrophotography.

  • The headphone jack also functions as a terminal for the optional Nikon MC-DC3 remote release cable, and the USB-C terminal allows for charging the camera and powering it via USB. A micro-HDMI port enables external recording and live viewing.

  • Integrated SnapBridge connectivity allows for the seamless transfer of low-resolution images, as well as the possibility of remote shooting. BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) and Wi-Fi enable communication between the camera and a smart device. Additionally, the mobile device can remotely trigger the shutter and display a live view from the camera for working remotely.

  • The included EN-EL15c rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides approximately 380 shots per charge and in-camera charging via USB is supported, even when the camera is in use.

Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-50 mm f/4-6.3 Lens

With an elegant design and versatile range, the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-50mm f/4-6.3 is a compact standard zoom lens that covers focal lengths from wide-angle to normal. Its retractable design gives it a slim profile, making it ideal for outdoor and travel photography.

A stepper motor provides fast, quiet, and precise autofocus, along with the feature of permanent manual focus override, ideal for both photography and video.

Its optical design incorporates three aspherical elements and a pair of low dispersion elements that help control various aberrations to achieve high sharpness and clarity.

In addition, it incorporates a Super Integrated Coating to suppress flare and achieve high contrast and color accuracy. Furthermore, the lens features a programmable control ring that allows intuitive adjustment in various camera and exposure settings.

The standard zoom is designed for Nikon mirrorless cameras with an FX-format Z mount, but it can also be used with DX models where it provides an equivalent focal length range of 36-75 mm.

Three aspherical elements are used to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion in order to achieve sharp images with accurate representation.

Two extra-low dispersion elements greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range to produce greater clarity and color reproduction.

The super integrated coating suppresses flare and ghosting to enhance contrast and color fidelity when working in intense lighting conditions.

The stepper motor provides impressively smooth, silent, and fast autofocus performance that is ideal for both photography and video applications.

The retractable design maintains a sleek 2.9" long format when the lens is not in use, making it ideal for travel applications.

The programmable control ring is set by default to adjust manual focus, but it can also be used to control the aperture or exposure compensation.

The specialized electromagnetic opening mechanism provides greater stability in exposure control, which is especially beneficial when working with fast continuous shooting speeds.

The rounded seven-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing bokeh quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

The dust and moisture-resistant lens body benefits the use of the lens in inclement conditions.
