The Formatt-Hitech 100 x 150 mm Firecrest Graduated ND 0.6 filter helps to darken specific areas of an image, such as bright skies, while allowing normal, unaffected exposure in other image regions. The filter is denser at the edge and narrows to clear through the middle, with a smooth edge transition line between density and cleared areas. Neutral density filters do not affect image coloring and density 0.6 provides a 2-stop reduction in light entering the lens.
The design of this filter has been optimized for use with digital sensors and promotes near-flat attenuation of visible, ultraviolet and infrared light. due to the greater susceptibility of image sensors to infrared light compared to traditional film, color escapes may occur when photographing darker subjects requiring longer exposure times. this filter provides a high level of neutrality in all three spectra in order to eliminate color nuances and ensure cleaner, true blacks.
Applied to the exterior of the Schott Superwite glass construction is a 15-layer Firecrest multi-layer coating, which helps minimize reflections and flares to maintain true colors and contrasts. The multiple coating is also scratch and hydrophobic to benefit the overall durability of the filter. This filter measures 3.9 x 5.9"/100 x 150 mm and is 0.08"/2 mm thick, making it compatible with the 100 mm Formatt-Hitech filter holder. Its vertical orientation helps minimize reflections and flares to maintain true colors and contrasts.
