Venus Optics Laowa 105mm f / 2 Smooth Trans Focus Lens for Canon EF VE10520C
Designed to provide great control over blurred quality and to enhance the bokeh effect, Venus Optics' Laowa 105mm f / 2 Smooth Trans Focus lens is a premium short telephoto lens designed for full frame EF mount cameras. the unique optical design incorporates an apodization element (APD) as well as two separate diaphragms, 8 and 14 blades, to provide a separate fit over the bokeh, as well as exposure and depth of field. this APD element functions as a radial neutral density filter and functions as a radial neutral density filter. this APD element functions as a radial filter.
In addition to the unique attributes of the APD element, the lens also incorporates three low dispersion elements and an additional refractive index element to control chromatic aberrations and color fringes, in addition to producing a large amount of overall clarity and sharpness. The lens is also characterized by its manual focus, manual aperture design, which provides great control over focus and exposure to benefit work with the APD element.
The first telephoto short film designed for Canon full-frame EF mount cameras, this lens can also be used on APS-C models where it provides an equivalent focal length of 168 mm.
The optical design incorporates an apodization element that helps improve the quality of the bokeh. This element, which resembles a radially graduated ND filter that narrows from the light centre to the densest around the edges, produces more circular blurred reflections for a more pleasant selective focus and shallow depth-of-field effects.
To control the effect of the apodization element, two separate diaphragms are incorporated into the lens design: a 14-leaf diaphragm that works primarily in conjunction with the APD element to control the bokeh, as well as a standard 8-leaf diaphragm on the back of the lens design to control total light transmission and affect depth of field.
Due to the incorporation of the APD element, the lens offers an effective light transmission value of T3.2, while the f / 2 designation mainly refers to the potential for selective focusing and depth of field control.
Beyond the APD element, the lens also features three low dispersion elements and an additional refractive index element, which combine to limit chromatic aberrations throughout the aperture range and contribute to a high degree of sharpness and clarity.
A manual focus design allows a control adjusted to focus at a distance of up to 3' with a maximum magnification of 0.16x.
Two manual aperture rings allow you to adjust both the aperture affecting the exposure and the aperture affecting the APD.
