A stacked sensor and processor combo
The new sensor of the R5 Mark II maintains the high resolution of its predecessor, while introducing a stacked and back-illuminated design that makes room for Canon's latest image processor, the DIGIC accelerator. Operating alongside the stalwart DIGIC X, the camera combines raw image data with large-volume deep learning datasets to achieve improvements in subject tracking and recognition, pre-continuous capture, blackout-free shooting, video resolution, maximum recording time, and more, making the R5 Mark II a powerful and comprehensive toolkit for professional creators.

Autofocus and deep learning
The improved processing speeds benefit the already robust autofocus system of the EOS R series, which incorporates deep learning datasets in its Dual Pixel AF Intelligence to achieve advancements in subject recognition and tracking, while enhancing the eye-control focus feature introduced in the EOS R3.

• High-level processor analyses keep the desired subject locked when similar subjects intersect with each other.

Eye control approach
Reintroduced in the EOS R3, Eye Control AF allows photographers to use their eye to start focusing simply by looking through the electronic viewfinder. The R5 Mark II features newly developed camera optics and a revised line-of-sight detection algorithm to nearly double the detection frame rate. The camera integrates Eye Control Focus with its enhanced subject recognition and tracking algorithms to keep the subject seen sharply in focus.

High-speed, high-quality still image performance
Electronic shutter
The primary benefit of the new sensor and processor combination is the ability to capture high-quality, high-resolution images at a dizzying speed, unlocking mural-sized moments of athletic brilliance, breaking news, or even history. The R5 Mark II has the power to record the ephemeral and memorize it on a large scale with astonishing detail.

• Continuous shooting speeds of up to 30 fps in full-frame RAW format with reduced rolling shutter distortion, and up to 12 fps when using the mechanical shutter.

• It supports an always-on display and no dimming when using the electronic shutter.

• For indoor sports photographers, the camera effectively suppresses flickering in LED lighting environments by detecting refresh rates.

• The electronic shutter allows flash synchronization speeds of up to 1/250 s.

Pre-continuous shooting
The EOS R5 Mark II has the capability to perform up to 15 precontinuous shots by pressing the shutter button halfway before shooting. When the shutter button is fully pressed, the previous half-second of images is written to the memory card, allowing users to "go back in time" to capture a decisive moment they might have missed.

Noise reduction and scaling in the camera
Firstly, the R5 Mark II is a camera designed for image creators who aim to maximize quality and flexibility. As such, the broad native ISO range of 100-51200 suits working in a variety of lighting conditions, and the DIGIC processor allows the use of neural network noise reduction for cleaner images, especially at higher sensitivities.
This same processing power also allows for the creation of higher resolution still images, up to 179 MP, through in-camera upscaling. This deep learning-based tool doubles the number of pixels horizontally and vertically to produce a larger and more detailed image while maintaining sharpness and clarity.

Coordinated control image stabilization
A lightweight and compact construction encourages users to handle the camera by hand, and here, as elsewhere, the new internals of the R5 Mark II provide performance gains. Coordinated control helps achieve optimal hand-shake correction effects, which benefits shooting without a tripod in low-light conditions and reduces shake when recording videos. The five-axis in-body image stabilizer (IBIS) corrects up to 8.5 stops of unwanted camera movement at the center of the frame and 7.5 at the edges when used in conjunction with compatible lenses. Additionally, the digital video IS uses optical and sensor-shift stabilization methods along with digital IS to help achieve more stable images while moving.

An 8K powerhouse integrated into EOS Cinema
The R5 Mark II inherits many of the innovations that made its other relative, the R5 C, a favorite among combined video and photography shooters, and retains much of the features and workflow of its EOS Cinema cousin. Like its predecessors, the 45 MP full-frame sensor allows for high-resolution DCI 8K RAW video recording indoors, now up to 60 fps, along with SRAW 4K also across the full width of the sensor.

• It reads the signals from all the effective pixels of its full-frame 8K sensor, allowing high-definition 4:2:2 10-bit recording through oversampling during 4K and 2K video recording.

• Record high frame rate (HFR) videos with sound at up to 120p with DCI/UHD 4K resolutions (4096 x 2160/3840 x 2160) in 4:2:2 10-bit without cropping the sensor.

• It is compatible with XF-AVC based on MXF, which offers 10-bit 4:2:2 files, as well as the highly versatile MP4 for lightweight proxy files in various professional workflows.

• External RAW recording is compatible with recorders that have a full-size Type A HDMI port.

• Split recording is possible with RAW video and proxy saved on separate memory cards.

• It is compatible with Canon Log3, a gamma designed to facilitate grading, such as adjusting dark areas and tones, as well as integration with other sequences of the EOS Cinema system.
