Powerful hybrid performance, compact design
The Panasonic Lumix G97 mirrorless hybrid camera with 12-60 mm f/ lens3.5-5.6 The versatile Micro Four Thirds camera Lumix G95 is improved with USB-C power and data connectivity, a higher resolution rear OLED touchscreen, and Bluetooth 5.0 for faster and more reliable wireless connectivity. Retaining the 20.3 MP Live MOS sensor, five-axis Dual IS 2 image stabilization, and UHD 4K video of its predecessor, the Lumix G97 is an attractive tool for hybrid photographers seeking powerful performance in a compact design.
20.3 MP Live MOS digital sensor and Venus engine
Optimized for high-speed and high-resolution images, the G97 features a 20.3 MP Light MOS Micro Four Thirds sensor and an enhanced Venus Engine processor to create sharp and detailed still images and UHD 4K videos. This configuration maximizes resolution while keeping noise to a minimum, allowing the use of sensitivities up to ISO 25600. It is also fast, enabling continuous shooting speeds of up to 9 fps with AF-S and 6 fps with AF-C.
UHD 4K video recording
To complement the camera's still image capturing capabilities, UHD 4K video recording is possible at up to 30p with 8-bit color depth and 4:2:0 sampling when recording internally. Alternatively, external recording is supported via micro-HDMI with 4:2:2 sampling and 8-bit color depth. V-Log L is pre-installed in this camera and is used to capture a flat, neutral gamma curve well-suited for grading. Slow-motion video is available with support for 60 fps in Full HD resolution. Additionally, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a 3.5mm microphone input are available to enhance audio capture.
5-axis image stabilization and Dual IS 2
To achieve maximum sharpness when photographing without a tripod, Dual IS 2 combines the 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilization technology of the G97 with lens-based image stabilization to compensate for up to five stops of camera movement along with a wider range of movement types to produce sharper and clearer images. Dual IS 2 requires the use of Lumix lenses compatible with OIS.
Body design and wireless connectivity
A large OLED Live Viewfinder has a high resolution of 2.36 million dots and a 0.74x magnification for eye-level composition.
The 3.0" rear OLED monitor offers greater power for image composition and playback and now has a higher resolution of 1.840.000 points. Its free angle, tilt, and swivel design allows for viewing from a variety of angles. It is also a touchscreen, enabling intuitive menu navigation and control of settings.
Constructed from magnesium alloy with a die-cast frame, the G97 features a durable design that also incorporates extensive sealing on joints, dials, and buttons to make it splash and dust resistant.
The lithium-ion battery offers approximately 290 shots per charge or approximately 1050 shots per charge when working in LVF power-saving mode. Additionally, the battery can be charged in the camera via the new USB-C port or through AC power.
The built-in 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connectivity and the new Bluetooth 5.0 low-energy technology allow for wireless image sharing and remote camera control from linked smartphones and tablets. Bluetooth LE also enables a constant connection with your mobile device, allowing for features such as geolocation and automatic image transfer. The new USB-C port also allows for higher data transfer speeds with a wired connection.
4K Photography Modes
Taking advantage of the video recording capabilities of the G97, there are three still image capture modes available to record continuous 8 MP still images at a shooting speed of 30 fps:
Burst: this mode will allow you to record continuously, making it ideal for situations where you need a fast frame rate to capture the best moment.
Pre-burst: this mode is ideal for those moments when you're not sure of the critical moment to press the shutter button, and it will record images one second before and one second after pressing the shutter button to provide you with 60 frames to choose from.
Burst (S/S): this mode closely follows the video recording process and allows you to play your video, pause it at the chosen moment, and use the shutter button to mark a selected frame from the video and save it as a single 8 MP frame.
49-area depth from defocus AF system
To accelerate autofocus performance, DFD (Depth-From-Defocus) technology is employed to quickly calculate the distance to subjects and adjust the focus position, allowing for continuous shooting at up to 6 fps with continuous AF. This contrast-detection type focus method benefits both still image and video recording modes, as well as subject tracking applications where the color, size, and movement vectors of the subject are used to intelligently lock onto moving subjects and ensure precise focus. When working with portrait subjects, face and eye detection capabilities facilitate photographing people and prioritize focus as specifically as on a subject's pupil. The sensitivity and speed of focus can be adjusted to further enhance performance with certain subjects. Additionally, AF sensitivity of up to -4 EV allows for working in low-light conditions.
To benefit manual focus operation, focus peaking is available, highlighting the bright contrast edges with a colored outline to quickly recognize your focus point, as well as Touch MF Assist for touch operation to focus. MF Assist can also be used to increase magnification up to 20x for more critical focusing on specific subjects.
Lumix G Vario 12-60 mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH. POWER OIS Lens
The camera body includes this versatile wide-angle to telephoto zoom equivalent to 24-120 mm, which is well-suited for a variety of photographic applications. This POWER OIS system is combined with the camera's sensor-shift image stabilization system, which uses Dual IS, to achieve effective control of camera movement and achieve sharper handheld shots. The lens also employs a trio of aspherical elements and an extra-low dispersion element to minimize spherical and chromatic aberrations and achieve greater clarity and sharpness.
Other camera functions
A mechanical focal-plane shutter allows for a fast maximum shutter speed of 1/4000 s, as well as a maximum flash synchronization speed of 1/200 s. An electronic shutter function also allows for a maximum shutter speed of 1/16,000 s to work better in bright light conditions and with wider aperture settings.
Composite recording with live view is a unique long exposure mode that releases the shutter at designated exposure time intervals and synthesizes parts of the image with high brightness to produce a single well-exposed image. This mode is ideal for high contrast scenes, and the live view can be used to preview how the exposure of the target subject is affected over several composite exposures.
Photographic style modes: Standard, Vivid, Natural, Monochrome, L. Monochrome, L. Monochrome D, Landscape, Portrait, Custom, Cinelike D, Cinelike V, and V-Log L.
Filter modes: Expressive, Retro, Old times, High key, Low key, Sepia, Monochrome, Dynamic monochrome, Rough monochrome, Silky monochrome, Impressive art, High dynamic, Cross process, Toy effect, Pop toy, Bleach bypass, Miniature effect, Soft focus, Fantasy, Star filter, One-point color, and Sun.
