State-of-the-art AI processing uses detailed information about human shapes and postures to greatly improve the accuracy of subject recognition and maximize its resolution potential. Subject recognition has been expanded to include more types, such as vehicles and insects.
AI processing unit to better detect subjects
The α7R V features an AI processing unit dedicated to handling large amounts of data to enable more accurate subject recognition and a wider variety of subject types.
Human pose estimation
The α7R V uses data on subject shapes to recognize movement, which improves human eye recognition by approximately 60%. Human pose estimation is based on learned shapes to accurately recognize eyes and body and head positions, allowing it to focus on and track a subject even if they are facing away or wearing a mask.
Recognize a greater variety of subjects
In addition to humans, animals, and birds, the camera now recognizes insects, cars, trains, and airplanes, providing greater flexibility and reliability when capturing photos and videos. It now recognizes heads and bodies, in addition to eyes (Real-time Eye AF) of people, animals, and birds.
Greater precision in white balance control
The AWB function of the α7R V has evolved with the capabilities of its AI. In addition to the camera's front "visible and infrared light sensor," its AI processing unit helps achieve more accurate white balance in unfavorable lighting, such as when the subject is in the shadows.

The full-frame 35mm back-illuminated CMOS Exmor R™ sensor with approximately 61 effective megapixels is processed to the maximum and in real-time by the advanced BIONZ XR™ engine to generate an astonishing level of detail in both photos and videos.

The sensor includes Sony's image sensor technologies, with effective noise reduction thanks to its back-illuminated structure, gapless on-chip lenses, sealed glass with anti-reflective coating, and no optical low-pass filter.
The latest BIONZ XR image processor
With processing power up to 8 times greater than its predecessor, the new BIONZ XR processes large volumes of image data while minimizing latency and increasing the processing power of the camera's videos and photos.
Evenly accurate exposure and color
The latest BIONZ XR engine provides even more exposure control and greater color reproduction accuracy. A new AE algorithm detects the skin area on faces and controls the exposure accordingly when capturing photos and videos.
Integrated advanced 5-axis optical stabilization
The α7R V now offers up to 8 stops of in-body stabilization for the first time in the α series. This provides effective stabilization indoors at low shutter speeds or in nighttime scenes where it is best to avoid increasing sensitivity.
Multiple capture with Pixel Shift responds to changes
Pixel Shift multi-capture takes advantage of the control of the built-in precision image stabilization system. Up to 16 images are captured with pixel shifts and composed on a PC to achieve the best resolution. Movements as small as 1 pixel can be detected and compensated for when the PC software performs the composition.
Real-time AF recognition
The AF system of the α7R V offers improved performance and takes advantage of enhancements in subject recognition performance. Deep learning supports real-time recognition AF and more reliable real-time tracking backed by higher performance of the fast hybrid AF over a larger area.
High-quality 8K video recording
The XAVC HS format allows for 8K (7680 x 4320) 24p (25p) high-quality and high-resolution video recording in the camera with efficient HEVC/H.265 compression, which makes the most of Sony's lenses and the resolution produced by the sensor's full pixel readout. Even the smallest details of the subjects are faithfully captured.
Sublime 4K video recording at up to 60p (50p)
Full-frame and Super 35mm formats can be selected for 4K video recording. Full pixel readout in Super 35mm mode without the need for pixel binning enables 2.6x oversampling in 4K videos. XAVC S-I (All-Intra) or XAVC HS formats with 10-bit 4:2:2 color sampling are supported.
Expressive S-Cinetone™
Based on CineAlta™ camera technology like the acclaimed VENICE, S-Cinetone produces natural mid-tones essential for reproducing healthy skin tones, soft colors, and beautiful highlights.
Real-time tracking for videos

Active Mode provides solid stabilization when recording without a tripod. In addition to in-body stabilization, lenses with built-in image stabilization (EI) coordinate with the body to give you effective control even when taking telephoto photos without a tripod.

The α7R V offers tools such as a clear on-screen recording tally frame, a flexible exposure mode, white balance adjustment during recording, new capture brand aspect markers, and a video timer.
New variable angle LCD monitor with 4 axes
Unprecedented monitoring flexibility
The newly developed 4-axis variable-angle monitor from Sony combines the utility of a conventional flip-out monitor with the flexibility of a side-opening variable angle. It provides greater freedom of capture by allowing the angle to be adjusted without restrictions when using the camera vertically or horizontally.
Two multimedia slots for CFexpress Type A
The two multimedia slots of the α7R V support CFexpress Type A and SDXC/SDHC UHS-I and UHS-II cards. The high write speed of Type A cards helps to process large volumes of data without stress. There are independent modes for delayed and simultaneous recording.
Fast Wi-Fi for connection to PC, FTP, and smartphones
The built-in Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac) allows communication on the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands and offers compatibility with 2x2 MIMO for fast and stable data transfer and reliable communication.
