All Profoto Softboxes have a recessed front that allows you to attach a softgrid. The softgrid reduces light spread to 50°. In other words, it creates more directed light and eliminates a large amount of scattered light, something that allows you to shape the light with even greater precision.

By reducing light dispersion, the softgrid can help you create more contrast in your images and thus create a more dramatic and personal look. Regarding reducing unwanted scattered light, it is especially useful when you don't want to illuminate the background or surrounding areas.
