Canon Lens Types

The Canon EOS system has 2 types of mount available which is what you will find in the lenses available for Canon. The EF mount is the generic mount for all lenses and focal lengths regardless of sensor size and the EF-S mount is specific to Canon's APS-C sensor cameras.

The EF-S mount is the generic mount for all lenses and focal lengths regardless of sensor size and the EF-S mount is specific to Canon's APS-C sensor cameras.

It should be noted that although some lenses from other brands come with EF mount, they may also be designed for use with APS sensor cameras so we would see a crop on larger sensors.

How do you know if your Canon camera uses EF or EF-S lenses?

On the body of your Canon camera, next to the lens mount, you'll find the answer. If you see a small red dot on the camera, you are looking at a machine that is compatible with EF lenses. If, in addition to the red dot, there is a white dot, then the camera is compatible with both EF and EF-S lenses.

Frequently Asked Questions about Canon Lenses

Where to buy cheap Canon lenses?

Lenses for Canon cameras can be found in our online shop of Duke Photography. We have different lenses available for different models. You can choose from our wide angle zoomtele zoom or fixed focus lenses. Some of the most popular are the CANON EF 50MM F/1.8 STM and the CANON RF 24-105 MM F / 4-7.1 IS STM.

What are Canon L lenses?

The Canon L lenses correspond to the professional range of lenses. They have a higher price than the standard range but offer better images and higher performance in general. The difference can be seen in the build quality of the lens and in the colours and sharpness of the photographs. Some of the L range lenses are the CANON RF 24-70MM F/2.8 L IS USM and the CANON RF 85MM F / 1.2L USM DS.

How to clean Canon lenses?

Lenses, both Canon and non-Canon lenses, are sensitive parts that should be taken care of as much as possible. With a UV filter you can protect the lenses from dirt, moisture or scratches. The lens cap should be used to protect the lens when the camera is not in use. If we have no choice but to clean the lens, we can either blow it with air and clean it with a chamois or use a specific cleaning kit.

Which lens brands are compatible with Canon?

There are several manufacturers that produce quality lenses for Canon cameras, both for the classic EF mount and the new EF-S and EF-M mounts. Among them are IRIX, LAOWA, SAMYANG, SIGMA, TOKINA, ZEISS and TAMRON. If you have any questions you can consult with our experts at Duke Photography.
